The Challenge

The Challenge

Creating content for games manually is doable, but often time-consuming, repetitive, and prone to inconsistencies. Each match requires composition setups, updating colors and assets, double-checking timings, and rendering each version into the correct folders by hand.

When multiple games need to be delivered in one sitting, this process becomes labor-intensive and error-prone. In the fast-paced world of sports media, where quality and brand consistency matter across dozens of outputs, this slows down production and increases the margin for mistakes.

Improving the workflow

Improving the workflow

Improving the workflow

This toolkit is a personal team project exploring how pre-game content production can be improved for a basketball league. It was built to reduce repetition, save time, and make high-volume content creation more manageable within fast-paced schedules.

By automating asset updates, minimizing manual edits, and streamlining the render process, the system helps teams produce consistent, high-quality visuals with less friction.

The goal isn’t to replace creativity. It’s to support it, by making the technical side of content creation simpler and more reliable.

The toolkit is built around a simple goal: to generate high-quality, consistent outputs from tabular data with minimal manual setup.

It comes as a complete package including the After Effects project file, sample data, assets, render folder structure, and a custom Script UI Panel installer.

Once the panel is installed in After Effects, the user uploads a CSV file containing team details like names, colors, and other metadata.

After setting the match date and selecting the desired team combinations, multiple games can be added to the render queue at once.

The panel also provides controls to queue multiple versions and manage them efficiently, including options to add, remove, or clear entries as needed.

From there, the render system automatically organizes and names the output files, eliminating the need for manual folder selection. While this bypasses certain native After Effects render controls, it significantly improves speed and reliability, allowing the user to spend less time managing files and more time focusing on creative decisions.

Toolkit in Use

While this toolkit was developed for basketball pre-game animations, its structure is adaptable to any scenario where tabular data connects to visual content within a composition.

It can be extended to social media graphics, promotional visuals, digital signage, or even live broadcast assets - anywhere the content needs to be generated at scale with consistency and speed.

By separating creative design from content population, the system enables the teams to deliver high-quality visuals more easily, regardless of platform or output format.

This version of the toolkit focuses on pre-game content, but it’s built to scale.

Future iterations could introduce multiple animation styles, flexible layouts, and alternate aspect ratios for different platforms. The system can also be extended with new compositions such as scoreboards, top performers, highlight reels, or any format tailored to the client’s data and content needs.

The toolkit is modular by design, making it easy to expand or adapt for different use cases and sports formats. Because it’s built specifically to suit what the client needs to produce, it can also support manual overrides wherever flexibility is required.

This project is an exploration of creative automation by bringing together design systems, scripting, and motion to simplify complex workflows. It reflects my ongoing interest in building tools that not only look good, but make the process behind them easier, faster, and more thoughtful.

If you’re looking to scale your content production without compromising quality, this toolkit approach can be tailored to your needs. Feel free to reach out at hey@kruthihv.com. I’d love to hear what you’re working on.
